 Juli Auriane - Music Biography

Born in South-East Queensland, Juli-Auriane is a Cairns based singer-songwriter, instrumentalist (flute and synth), sound technician, and visual artist, who has played in various jazz/rock bands, cabaret acts, choral ensembles and orchestras around her home state.  Specialising in original music, with nods to the greats thrown in from the Latin-Jazz-Funk-Rock and RnB genres, Juli-Auriane thrives on upbeat funky-dance tracks, smooth grooves, gut wrenching rock and experimental electronica within her passionate sound design.  Over previous decades, she has been best known for her unique improvisation on flute and synth, as well as her souring vocal melodies, and joyful, energetic live performances.  However, it is lately, her work as a sound technician in both live and studio settings which is getting her noticed, around the far north region.

On October 28, 2014, the Tablelander newspaper wrote, "Juli Auriane delivered some seriously beautiful vocals with her band, Kalen-ja," going on to further describe Kalen-ja as a "hot new band, featuring the velvet voice of Juli Auriane," in their editorial of the Tablelands Folk Festival that year.

In 2019, Juli-Auriane achieved her Bachelor of Music (with Distinction) from CQUniversity's Central QLD Conservatory of Music.  She was also excited to have received the Rotary Club of Mackay's Award for achieving the highest results in her class.

In 2019-2020 Juli-Auriane has continued her post-graduate study, and career development in sound production and music therapy, alongside her second Bachelors degree in Psychological Science, and hopes to combine her therapeutic, music, and arts practices, in the future.  Of course, while continuing her career both in live music and sound production.

Cairns Background:

Moving to Cairns in 2010, Juli-Auriane formed her first originals band "Walking Trees" in 2012 with band-mate Joanna Symons.  They soon evolved into "Kalen-ja" when guitarist Hiroe Saitoh joined the crew.  Since then, Juli Auriane, Hiroe and other former members (Aleta Tulk, Will Achilles and more), alongside late addition Debbie McAlloon, toured Tropical North Queensland with their trademark, smooth, soul-funk-fusion sound.

In 2016, Kalen-ja evolved further into the fresh new band 'DRIVEN' - a group easily distinguished with their 'driving', pulsing rhythms; unique synth and guitar riffs; and floating melody lines.

2016 also saw Juli Auriane and local guitarist and singer-songwriter, Ben Daniel, join forces in the new acoustic duo "Serenity".

Visual Arts

Juli Auriane, having forever been an avid 'doodle-er,' and also having won various art prizes as a young child, only began to study art after a string of injuries left her physically incapacitated, for a time, within her late 20s.  This is where her passion for the visual arts bloomed, and from 2009, she began exhibiting her work...
